Community Involvement

We are very fortunate to work with wonderful clients in a great industry. Because of our good fortune I feel it is important for us to give back to the broader community. Beyond my role as President, I serve as an active member of the Management Committee for Congress Asset Management and as a Trustee for both Regis College and Lawrence Catholic Academy. Previously, I was a long-time Trustee of Cristo Rey Boston High School and served on the Advisory Board of the Laboure Center in South Boston. In 2014, I was appointed by the Governor as a Director of the University of Massachusetts Building Authority.

Professional background
Prior to Congress Wealth, I spent over a decade with SEI Investments (ticker SEIC) in a variety of roles. Most recently, I was a Senior Vice President leading their Family Office business and opening ultra-high net worth offices in Boston and London.

Guiding financial principles
Treat your clients’ money like it was your mother’s.

Most professional satisfaction
Helping people achieve their goals and reduce their stress. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoy coaching the next-generation of Congress Wealth’s leadership.

Best advice ever received
Find something you really enjoy doing and it won’t be work.

Favorite book
The Sea by John Banville because it is beautifully written about the unpredictable nature of memory. The lesson is that impressions are unreliable. Decisions as consequential as those affecting our financial lives should be made using fact-based expertise and advice.

Favorite quote
“Not for ourselves alone are we born” – Cicero

Community Involvement

Beyond my role here at Congress Wealth Management, I also serve as a member of the National Financial Planning Association.

Professional background
Prior to co-founding Congress Wealth, I was Vice President and Senior Account Executive in the Private Asset group of Fidelity Investments, Boston. I was responsible for providing investment and planning advice to a book of clients that exceeded $2 billion in assets.

Guiding financial principles
The fiduciary standard of care. I try to advise clients on what is truly in their long-term best interest. Most importantly, the plans that we construct are designed with simplicity, logic and are laser-focus on achieving goals.

Financial advice to live by
Think long term and use time as an asset. It’s the most powerful asset we all have. Too often investors get “frozen” and stuck in inertia. Taking the first step towards building a plan is the first step in making progress.

Most professional satisfaction
Watching the nervousness and anxiety caused by financial matters evaporate over time. When clients become unburdened they are empowered to focus on what truly matters to them.

Best advice ever received
Keep it simple. Too often, progress is delayed because of complexity for complexity sake. Focus on making progress towards achieving goals one step at a time – there’s no silver bullet. Maintaining financial health is no different than maintaining physical health; it requires focus, effort, and a solid plan one can stick with over the long-term.

Favorite book
The Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. It reinforces the notion that experience and success require skill, effort, and most importantly, time.

Most happy when
Spending time outdoors with my incredible wife, three amazing boys, and without a phone, screen, and Xbox in sight!

Guiding financial principles
Organization! If you have a good grasp on your cash flow, you’re in the driver’s seat and have the ability to put yourself on a better path.

Financial advice to live by
Be careful with credit card debt.  It’s easy to get into a habit of spending what you don’t have. When I was growing up my dad told me not to use a credit card if I didn’t have the cash to pay it off when the bill came due. To this day I have not carried a credit card balance. Thanks dad!

Most professional satisfaction
I have the opportunity to use some pretty cool decision-making tools (i.e., financial planning software). Best advice ever received
You have two ears and one mouth. Use them proportionally.

Professional background
Prior to Congress Wealth Management in 2013, I was a Senior Client Associate at Daintree Advisors LLC. I began my career at Shepherd Kaplan LLC as an associate in the private client service group.  Through the compilation of my experiences, I’ve been exposed to a vast range of clients and methods of managing relationships and wealth.  The variety of advising styles I’ve seen and worked with has absolutely shaped the kind of advisor I’ve become, and enabled me to hone my skills and best practices.

Guiding financial principles
Integrity and compassion. The only thing as personal as family is wealth.  Entrusting an advisor to help manage their financial lives is a substantial decision, and one I don’t take lightly.  I treat clients and their families with the kind of thought, care, and responsiveness that I would want and expect for my own family.

Financial advice to live by
“A penny saved is a penny earned” mentality, in combination with investing thoughtfully and responsibly; the power of compounding is profound.

Most professional satisfaction
I derive the most pride as an advisor when I’ve built a level of trust with clients where they feel they can relax with the understanding that they have a team looking out for their best interests; there is usually a noticeable shift when this has been achieved, and it’s always fulfilling.

Professional background
I started my financial planning career in Buffalo, NY at Wilmington Trust as a para-planner. Shortly after starting I began the CFP® program and fell in love with the profession. From there, I was relocated to Baltimore to be part of a national financial planning team. After five years with Wilmington Trust, I came to Pinnacle Advisory Group (now Congress Wealth Management) to take over a practice from a retiring advisor. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her clients and cherish the opportunity to help individuals and families reach their financial goals.

Guiding financial principles
I’m not one for clichés, but understanding your budget and your spending is the heartbeat of your financial plan. Working diligently to track monthly spending can make a huge difference in financial education and confidence.

Financial advice to live by
Take advantage of what is given to you. Whether it’s a company match, a tax planning strategy, or investment advice from Rich and our team, taking advantage instead of ‘not having the time’ can make a difference in your overall financial plan.

Most professional satisfaction
From helping my clients retire happily to fulfilling pro bono duties it all comes down to putting clients first and helping through difficult situations. Getting to the ‘aha’ moment for clients is always the most rewarding.

Best advice ever received
Put yourself in uncomfortable situations to succeed. The more you can ‘branch out’, whether it’s public speaking, learning a new financial planning strategy or going to networking events where you don’t know anyone. Making yourself uncomfortable always results in a learning experience.

As a financial planner, my most valuable skill is listening.
